Luxury and bespoke backgammon boards
Backgammon is the oldest recorded board game in the world, and now Alexandra Llewellyn Design has created a de luxe range of boards, all tournament sized and all handmade. The company has created four unique designs each with its own distinctive atmosphere – be it elegant nudes or hand-painted palms and feathers, all encased in an exquisitely made wooden case with a signature fastening. Each board is handmade using the finest woods and leather, with perfectly weighted veneered playing pieces, cups and extra large doubling die and compartments lined in kid. It is both a game and a work of art that will sit comfortably in the rarest company in the most exclusive worlds.
The boards are priced at £1,800, and they will be on sale from 1st November 2010 at www.alexandralldesign.com (the website will be launched on 10 October 2010. Until then, the contact is +44 (0)7714 321860, or alexandra@alexandralldesign.com). From September, samples will be on show at Myriad, 131 Portland Road, Clarendon Cross, London.
The company also makes bespoke boards where the playing points are each designed to illustrate people and events in the client’s life, producing a unique portrait of anyone’s career, family and achievements.
Alexandra Llewellyn is a fine artist who trained in England, Italy and California. She was inspired to start her company after her time in charge of Product Development for Traditional Arts - a charity founded by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales to marry contemporary Islamic design and traditional craftsmanship. Alexandra’s time with the charity cemented her love of working with handmade design, new technologies and the expertise of craftsmen around the world.
Alexandra has been creating backgammon boards for over 5 years – and the amazing response prompted her to launch her company with this contemporary interpretation of the classic board.
