London Jewellery Week - Ute Decker and her wearable sculpture

At "Treasure," the cornerstone exhibition of London Jewellery Week, 10-13 June 2010, Ute Decker is to present new pieces from her sculptural jewellery collection in recycled silver and bio-resin. At the prestigious Goldsmiths' Hall, her work will be featured during the official launch of LJW. Later in June, her sculptural and architecturally informed jewellery in sustainable materials will be exhibited as part of the London Festival of Architecture, 24 June-4 July 2010.

Ute’s work is hallmarked by a consistent approach; conceptually, by a clear commitment to a sustainable use of our resources, and, in terms of visual appearance, by the minimalist design of her jewellery and a corresponding intensity of artistic expression.

Influenced by her experience in other media such as sculpture, textiles, paper and ceramics, Ute combines organic and architectural forms in her London studio to create minimalist statement jewellery as individual and limited edition pieces, often crossing the boundaries between art and functionality.

Actively engaged in campaigning for ethical ‘good practice’ from mine to jewellery-box, Ute is striving to apply the most sustainable studio practices, using recycled silver and packaging materials, and substituting traditional toxic resins with bio-resins derived from sunflowers. As well as being a key speaker at industry workshops and seminars, Ute has also written on ethical jewellery for the Goldsmith Magazine, while her website has become a focal point for information on ethical jewellery practices.
