Selfridges gift selection for Christmas 2011 Featured

An irresistible collection of extraordinary gifts

by 25 October 2011

Selfridges has been a highlight of shopping in London since 1909, therefore for over a century, and every year the department store celebrates Christmas with beautiful decorations on the façade and in the interiors. It entirely lives up to the award that it received in 2010 as the Best Department Store in the world.
The theme for the latest collection of presents is "An irresistible collection of extraordinary gifts" with products that are amongst the finest in the world.

For example, on the theme of jewellery gifts, the Cartier Love Bracelet collection, created in 1969, was at the time of its launch a very original concept because it was designed for both men and women. It was quickly adopted by the Hollywood jet-set and it has been one of the most coveted jewellery pieces in the world ever since.
Another glittering name in the world of jewellery is Chanel, and the Camélia Brodé collection offers a dazzling interpretation of Mademoiselle Chanel's favourite flower. The white gold settings virtually disappear amidst the diamonds that trace the outline of petals, in pieces that include rings, earrings, necklaces and a watch.
Jewellery means romance, and romance is something that goes hand-in-hand with a city such as Venice. Tiffany & Co. are in the Wonder Room on the ground floor of Selfridges, featuring a collection by designer Paloma Picasso. The Venezia collection was inspired by the city, and the pieces are in yellow gold with diamonds and colourful gemstones.

In their Magic Alhambra collection, Van Cleef & Arpels have returned to a motif designed in 1968, the four-leaf clover design that symbolizes good luck. The pavé diamonds that form each piece are surrounded by pearls in white gold, for an effect of intricate brilliance and pure luxury.
Boucheron's highlight this season is the Quatre Ring, very different and original in its cleaned-honed beauty. The rings are made in sections of different materials, with three golds - pink, white and yellow - and Boucheron ceramic.
Qeelin is a Chinese luxury jewellery brand whose mission is to combine Chinese cultural motifs with French craftsmanship. The Bao Ping collection presents forms reminiscent of antique Chinese vases, with pendants, rings and earrings. In white gold and diamonds, they have a surprise: looking into the vase reveals an explosion of colourful gems.

Perfumery is always popular as gifts, and Selfridges has some exciting and exclusive items. The J'Adore Prestige Edition is exclusive to Selfridges, with the intriguing scent presented in a beautiful hand-blown Baccarat amphora with a gold Masai collar. The result is a combination of Haute Parfumerie and Haute Joaillerie. Prada Candy is an explosive fragrance with Laotian Benzoin, musk and caramel. Valentina is Valentino's new perfume for women, deliciously Italian with its notes of bergamot, Alba truffle and Amalfi orange blossom. Boadicea the Victorious is, as the name suggests, a very British perfume, with fruity green tones, a touch of Cambodian Oud, and heart notes of rose and jasmine maroc. The bottle has an interesting decoration based on early English strapwork.

Selfridges' range of gifts for the winter 2011 festive season includes high-tech products, such as the Vertu Constellation. This much-awaited smartphone from the leading luxury mobile phone company has the cool and classic design that we have come to expect from Vertu, but in this model, the smartphone layout makes it even more elemental. Its prestige materials make it a delight to handle and use, and the phone becomes a portal to a whole range of exclusive services available to the user.
The Blackberry Playbook is a high-performance tablet in which a super-chic design is combined with a powerful heart.
Even in our age of bits and bytes, the feel of drawing a line or writing with a quality pen or pencil is absolute pleasure in itself. The RNX 316 collection by Caran d'Ache combines round and hexagonal forms into pens built of 316L stainless steel. They are showcased in the Selfridges' ground floor Stationery department.

While men are particularly partial to high-tech gifts, Selfridges are also showcasing some fine men's colognes, such as Terre d'Hermès, a woody, vegetal and mineral eau de toilette.
Whatever the gifts that you choose, the Selfridges shopping experience is always enjoyable, with the store's ever-changing displays. There are some special services, such as the VIP Services Lounge which is open to all customers with a Selfridges VIP card. It offers a plush, relaxed haven for a very relaxing session of purchasing, whether for yourself or for families and friends.
When your problem is time, Personal Shopping at Selfridges is an attractive solution. It speeds up the process of selection, by means of help provided by a team of expert consultants who speak a variety of languages. The stylish décor of the rooms in which you can view a personalized selection of exclusive products creates a unique shopping experience.

The pleasure of a great day out in the store continues in Selfridges' restaurants. These include the award-winining Hix Restaurant, the Champagne and Caviar Bar, the haute cuisine French restaurant Aubaine and the new frozen yoghurt parlour Pinkberry. These are not all: there are a total of 15 restaurants at Selfridges, and there is truly something for everyone.
It's easy to understand why shopping at Selfridges can easily become a full day. Last but not least, the store has a tax-free shopping facility, so that visitor who live outside the European Union can claim back the tax that they pay on most purchases at the store. For more information on this service, visit the Services Lounge on the lower ground floor.
