Your swim shorts have been packed away, summer weddings are coming to an end and you’re feeling those back to school blues. However changing of the seasons doesn’t need to be humdrum because it too comes with a fresh new wardrobe. Here are our top essentials that the everyday man will want transitioning into Autumn.
1. Lightweight Knitwear
While it’s still too early to be wearing thick knits, cardigans and light sweaters in merino and cashmere are still breathable whilst keeping that cool wind out. Stick to versatile colours such as grey, navy and camel or for an Autumnal refresh bottle green and burgundy add a splash of colour to neutral tones.
2. Classic Boots
Okay, we hope the weather will be on our side and we’re faced with fallen leaves as opposed to puddles at our feet. However we can’t be guaranteed; so you’ll want a good pair of boots going into Autumn. Matte or grain leather is favourable given the time of year, either a Chelsea or Derby or even a Brogue if you want something with added depth. Wear them under black denim or equally under smart trousers for those important business lunches. Church’s (pictured above) won’t let you down this Autumn for good quality footwear.
3. Oxford Shirts
Oxford shirts are the most versatile of shirt choice, whilst still being that little bit thicker than your regular button down; marrying dapper style with a preppy back to school vibe. You can wear them under a sweater, under a jacket or if we’re gifted with summer solstistice this autumn, you can throw this alone over a pair of jeans and boots.
4. Textured wool sports coat
We’re sure that more often than not, given the job you have and the industry you’re in most men will be wearing a white or light blue button under a navy or grey suit. It’s been known that dressing well for the office enables us to work harder, so add a little texture to your wardrobe and polish up your look with well tailored wool jacket. You don’t need a matching suit to look smart either, men can look just as sharp in separate suit pieces. A navy jacket is versatile and can be paired with any kind of trousers or jeans, over a shirt or roll neck for those cooler mornings.
5. Wool Trousers
Often, when searching for trousers we concentrate on the colour and cut as opposed to the fabric, which is just as important when it comes to fit and purpose. Wool trousers offer warmth and comfort that cotton does not, as well longetivity to see you through the cooler seasons, especially if you favour slim over skinny. For the advantageous shopper, invest in navy, grey or black that can be worn with a button down and sports jacket or equally with a t shirt and bomber jacket. British heritage brands are favoured when it comes to wool-blend tailoring for timeless quality.

6. Bomber Jacket
We’ve given you the lowdown on what to wear on your smarter days of the season, but you will have down days too. A bomber as some say, can be a statement piece to put over what could be a simple outfit. With fresh fabrics of jersey, leather or even suede these look great over a polo and sneakers as well as a sweater with boots. Go for a simple design in navy or grey or a bold style with splashes of colour.
