British footballer David Beckham wearing a Burberry trench and check scarf, photographed at Manchester airport.
This photo suggests a question: how do you tie the belt on a Burberry trench? The last time I was in a Burberry store (Rome) I received strict instructions that it shouldn't be buckled, but tied in a knot. That was how Humphrey Bogart did it (such as in "Across the Pacific"). Many people say that buckling the belt reinforces the military look a little too much. Others are of the opinion that tying the belt ends up creasing the fabric so that it eventually looks untidy. The buckle is there, they say, so use it. Evidently, that's what Beckham thinks.
