Tom Ford Seduced by ‘Made in Italy’ Sneakers

Tom Ford gives in to sneakers and hires Italian artisan cobblers

by 29 May 2014

This autumn, Tom Ford will launch his new collection of sporty footwear for men – a range of high- and low-top sneaker models in seven colours of leather and five in velvet, all of which have white rubber soles.

And he has chosen none other than Italian artisans to do the job.

Each shoe will be manufactured in Italian workshops by artisan cobblers. Famous for their meticulous craftsmanship and skill, they spend a week stitching, polishing and then resting the leather for ten days where the shape of the shoe is made. After which they are hand polished over a three-day period.

Prices range from 690 dollars for the velvet low-tops to 990 dollars for the leather high-tops. The shoes will be available at the Tom Ford stores in New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas.

Ford unveiled the sneakers during London Collections: Men in January, which at the time said “I have resisted the tennis shoe,” but finally succumbed since he figured out how to make them his own.
