John Richmond spring 2013 was about retro meets modern, with a number of themes sharing some constant elements such as openworked decoration, flowing satin, geometric print and texture patterns, and deconstruction. The biker jacket idea returns after having been seen in the men's spring 2013 collection presented in July.

Women's fashion in John Richmond's collection is all about black and white, with flowing lines, whether billowing and flowery, or tightly-sculpted. The piercing creates lacy decoration, neatly contrasted with the tough look of the leather trousers or jacket.

The layering includes some beautiful deconstructed looks, with long tassels and fringes that look like the remains of an outerwear garment that has been torn apart by a giant shredder.

Translated into evening wear, the black and white theme becomes a very beautiful gown reminiscent of John Singer Sargent and his portrait of Madame X.
