Marking its 50th anniversary this year, the legendary fashion headquarters of the Valentino Maison are housed within a palazzo in Piazza Mignanelli, Rome. At the helm of creative direction since 2008, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have united a contemporary style with the iconic glamour associated with the Valentino legacy. Under their creative direction, we have seen design and an artisanal savoir-faire come together for the launch of appealing new womenswear and menswear lines, along with a wide range of accessories. The latest fall/winter collections are now in boutique, here’s a preview of what to expect in store.

ROCKSTUD

The Rockstud design is the perfect combination between Valentino’s signature sophistication and the contemporary vision of the brand’s Creative Directors. Decorative studs become an iconic detail that marries the Maison’s know-how with the modern, inquisitive spirit that defines the Valentino woman. The Rockstud style is available in a wide range of must-have accessories such as handbags, shoes and small leather goods, ideal for both day and night.

NOIR

Valentino’s latest special project is an ode to the ultimate non-colour. An opulent play on surfaces, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpapolo Piccioli make black dazzle by revealing the texture of materials as they reflect light. The capsule collection is composed of studded rocker shoes, bags, clutches, small shoulder bags, leather cuffs and gloves. Styles of extreme elegance give a new dimension to the glamorous shade. Calf leather, python, pony, crocodile and patent leather become nuances of black on which ruthenium studs add glimmers of subdued light. Noir is both a challenge and a celebration.

VALENTINO FOR LADIES – FW 12-13

Blending opposites to create a contemporary mood, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli take us on a globetrotting journey with classic silhouettes and artisan craftsmanship. Setting the tone for the season are the meticulously designed capes that envelop the figure with a graceful and mysterious aura. Opulence becomes an expression of control as flowing jumpsuits cut a lithe distinctive figure and tactile details accentuate the garment’s construction from straight slim coats to tone-on-tone trims that run along tunics with a precise cut. The concept of addition emerges on blouses and evening dresses on which patchwork patterns with embroidery and decorative designs create a hypnotic effect.

Lines are lengthened to give an impression of endless grace, cuts and ribbing create volume on the hips and just the slightest of transparencies veil the bust line. We particularly fancy Valentino’s signature stand-up collars that draw attention to the face. When it comes to colour and canvas, the hues are subdued to a dark and rich context of white, beige, black, midnight blue and deep red – with just a splash of pink used sparingly in several key pieces – the materials are also rich in volume and texture incorporating dry and jacquard wool for coats and cady, wool lace, leather and chiffon for mini dresses, gowns, blouses and trousers.

Accessories in the new collection keep with the classic appeal of the clothing with narrow ankle-strapped heels, rounded-toe boots and gloves with metal studs that coordinate perfectly with handbags. In all, an effortlessly exquisite and vivacious finish to the Maison’s momentous anniversary.
