Great news for bag lovers in London! Bracher Emden has produced a range of bags designed by Bora Aksu, and they'll be available for purchase at Harrods from 31 August 2012. The bags are striking both in colour – aubergine, butter yello, pale grey, taupe, ink black, forest green, coral red – and in their design, with chunky piping that swirls over the sides. There are two models, a tote, and a clutch in which the piping creates a heart motif.
Aksu is a colourful figure on the British fashion design scene. Of Turkish origin, he has been based in London for 15 years. He says, "My signature style is based upon finding the blance between contrasts. It's romantic with a darker twist." His own fall-winter 2012 collection features a 1920s look with relatively severe lines contrasting with exuberant decoration and detailing. At the runway shows for London Fashion Week in February 2012, Bora Aksu paired these Bracher Emden bags with his garment designs, adding extra contrast to the looks.
This is an interesting development for Bracher Emden, whose creative director Richard Emden is famous for his quirky, futuristic, feminine bags. At Harrods, the bags will be on sale at the New Designers Accessory Space on the Lower Ground floor, and online at harrods.com. They retail at £200-£500.
