An exclusive look at the Turkish designer's new collaboration with Armaggan
by 18 April 2012

Less than two years after luxury lifestlye brand Armaggan set up shop in Istanbul's trendy shopping district NiÅŸantaşı, it has distinguished itself as Istanbul’s definitive destination for handmade, limited-edition goods of the highest quality. With the aim of promoting the uniqueness of Turkish designs, their latest collaborative effort sees an exclusive collection of ready-to-wear garments designed by Bora Aksu.

Aksu is a London-based Turkish designer who’s best known for designs that are, in his own words, ‘romantic with a darker twist’. Not only is he a graduate of the prestigious Central Saint Martins and a four-time recipient of London Fashion Week’s coveted New Generation (NEWGEN) award, but Aksu has also been invited to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen herself!

His Armaggan collection features 40 timeless pieces that place an emphasis on blending traditional weaving techniques with cutting-edge design. In crafting this collection, Aksu was inspired by a young girl’s story, which recalled the handmade garments her mother fondly treasured and kept safeguarded in a chest. Fittingly, each of Aksu’s pieces is handcrafted in Armaggan's ateliers. The ethereal silk dresses and skirts, some of them bearing traditional motifs, lend the collection a touch of romance; tight-fitting jackets contrast with oversized coats, all of them hand-woven.
