Baldinini - Caught in the Seventies with Claudio Merazzi Featured

The brand's Creative Director talks inspiration
by 27 March 2012

Baldinini shoes are bold, beautiful and constantly trending. We recently caught up with Creative Director Claudio Merazzi at the brand’s Milan showroom to see the new fall/winter 2012-13 collection.

What was your design inspiration for this collection?
This year we were inspired by the Seventies, specifically by certain manufacturing and workmanship methods used in the era. We recaptured these old artisan practices by hand sewing uppers and soles, just like they used to do back then. The difference is that we’re using these old techniques on contemporary shoe forms like pointy heels.

What types of materials and styles are in the new collection?

Details in the collection are complemented by precious leathers like soft calfskin, suede and deerskin. This season we’ve given great attention to clean silhouettes, styles that have a simple and sophisticated appearance with particular accents such as metallic touches like studs – very biker-like. We’ve also designed an evening line in black, turquoise, wine and violet with a sculptural heel and multicoloured Swarovski crystal details.
