Colour and pattern, plus a British sports feel
by 16 January 2012

Missoni retain their hallmark, namely a festival of colour and pattern. This year, the brand has turned to classic British sportswear as the source of inspiration. For example, traditional Cornish fishermen garments were used, dissecting the style, maintaining certain fundamental features, and then adding the classic zig-zag motifs that have been part of the Italian brand's history right from the start. The look is layered, with polo, cardigan, jacket and duffel coat, producing a smarter look. In the same way, hunting jackets and biker jackets are revisited and reinterpreted in the Missoni style.

Knitwear materials include Argyle check, loom-knit wool, yak and mohair jacquard, cashmere, waterproof wool, with silk inserts. Velvet and wool flannel feature in the trousers, while shoes and boots are in leather and suede. Accessories are minimalist, with a few weekend bags, and a modern version of the fisherman's hat in boiled wool.

The colours of the fall-winter 2012-2013 collection comprise earth shades, a wide range of bordeaux, and violet with grey and camel nuances. Once again, a collection that will probably not be included amongst the ground-breakers as regards stylistic innovation, but that puts the emphasis on quality materials and the tailoring skill with which they are worked and combined. Missoni garments are classics, always recognizable, supremely wearable for leisure and informal occasions, and an interesting alternative for more formal occasions.

Missoni presented their collection at 4 p.m. on Sunday 15 January 2012 in Via Thaon de Revel 21, Milan.
