A guide to Milan's latest footwear trends this season, and an eyes-up for a new luxury store
by 07 October 2011

Wedges, sandals, pumps, ballerinas, heels, but which are the must-have looks of the season?
Wouldn't it be nice to have a selection of all the most fashionable and luxurious models in order to get an idea of the season's trends, select our preference, and then go hunting in boutiques?
Here, we've done exactly this! Take a look at our slideshow that presents the iconic models from the fall-winter 2011-2012 season, from fashion houses including Sergio Rossi, Casadei, Miu Miu, Prada, Gianvito Rossi, Gucci, Bally, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Stella McCartney, Roger Vivier, Tod's, Hogan, Vierre, Dior, Stuart Weitzman, Cesare Paciotti and more...

And then it's time to go shopping!
Wherever you are, you can take a look at our Store Locator to find a brand store in your city.

If you are in Milan, or plan going there, there is a glamorous piece of news for you! Excelsior Milano has opened, a luxury department store in Galleria del Corso 4, very close to the Cathedral and not far from the luxury shopping district. It is a seven-floor store in a building that has been completed renovated by architect Jean Nouvel, with transparent lifts, and dazzling lightshow on the exterior (in a covered arcade). It is part of the Coin Group, which has many stores in Italy and is currently expanding abroad. This store is named after the cinema that used to be at this location. Apart from its fashion, it presents food in Eat's Store on the basement floor under the guidance of star chef Davide Oldani. At Eat's Store there is also a restaurant and a bar, with bistrot, take-away, and quality "slow" eating.

Jewels are present courtesy of Tiffany & Co with a shop-in-shop. Sophisticated pastries are provided by Pasticceria Ladurée. The Design Bar on the ground floor could become a favourite meeting place for shoppers. In fact, the store concept is familiar in many cities, but it is new in Milan: a place where you can go for a coffee, or buy some quality take-away food to bring back to the office, and get some great shopping time as well! The store is open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
And the good news is that it has a space dedicated to Manolo Blahnik! The man who has dedicated his life to heels, to the point that trendy high heels are often called "Manolos" in popular culture. It was Sex and the City that brought him international stardom, but it is the shoes themselves that make him a byword amongst women everywhere in the world.

Here is a short list of the brands present at Excelsior Milano:
Christian Louboutin, Church's, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Pierre Hardy, Repetto and more!

Excelsior Milano is the big event in the city's shopping scene this season. But while you're in the city, don't miss the so-called quadrilatero della moda, the fashion district, where you will find a stunning array of brands. Milan's window displays are amongst the very finest in the world. And remember to look around the corner! There are lots of interesting surprises. For example, from Via Montenapoleone, turn into Via Santo Spirito, where you will see the Gianvito Rossi boutique, and Stella McCartney… which is followed by Balenciaga… you get the idea!

Likewise, from Via della Spiga, turn right into Corso Venezia, where you will find Luciano Padovan with many superb, vertiginous heels, boots and must-have bags. Take a look at www.lucianopadovan.com
Don't miss Vergelio in Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where you can find the best brands, as well as many other less familiar but very interesting brands.
There are some very cool stores a little further away from the fashion district, and these are worth a visit. In Via Solferino, on the corner with Via Pontaccio, don't miss Spelta, which is a crafts shoemaking concern that has specialized in ballerinas since 1967. It's a classic name in Milan, and much loved by Milanese women who wear Spelta from childhood on!

A short distance away, there is Clan in Via Pontaccio 15, great for new trends for men and women. At the end of this street, there is Via Cusani where you will find Antonia Accessori (on the corner with Via Ponte Vetero 1), a blend of great luxury accessories. All very cool.. and in fact Antonia Accessori is also present at Excelsior Milano.
Lastly, don't miss another Milanese classic, 10 Corso Como, where you will find some of the most daring shopping of the city!
