Roberta Scarpa Fall/Winter 2011-2012 women's collection Featured

A report from the Milan runway fashion shows
by 23 February 2011

Roberta Scarpa has been designing clothes and accessories for thirty years and after seeing today's presentation, I hope she designs for thirty more.

A True Venetian
Scarpa hails from the floating city of Venice, a romantic and historic destination known for its architecture, art, carnevale season and characteristic intersecting canals and bridges. The Italian designer has never forgotten her roots, paying tribute to her city through her designs.Scarpa's laboratories are based in Venice where the designer experiments with different materials to create groundbreaking collections. The cotton fabrics are boiled and washed and knitwear is first boiled, then needle-embroidered with elegant accents.

Scarpa's FW 2011-2012 collection gains its inspiration from the tradition of fine Italian craftsmanship and the concept of a 'Metropolitan Country'. The designer unites the city style and country casual to create a lovely and feminine collection that makes us almost look forward to winter so we can wear it. Scarpa describes her collection as both classic and sporty, masculine and feminine. Scarpa uses the Moretto symbol typical of Venetian jewellery as a throughline in many of the items in the new collection from zippers on jackets to a logo on shirts.

And the Venetian theme at today's presentation didn't stop with the clothes, Scarpa had a full buffet spread of Venetian specialties. Needless to say, this Luxos Fashion Editor got a feast for the eyes and appetite.
