Alessandro Sartori, amongst the top fashion designers and creative director of the Z Zegna line by Ermenegildo Zegna, has envisaged a classical man for the next winter season, but with a futuristic note based on visual arts and on new techniques used for assembling the textile components of garments. The Z Zegna line takes a giant step into the future, revealing the man of the decades ahead.
The collection reflects the experimental research that the brand has been conducting at its headquarters in Biella, Piedmont, in order to attain a meaningful combination of classical tailoring techniques and new laser technology. Examples include seamless bonding of differing materials such as wool, cashmere, leather, flannel, knitwear and cashmere felt.
Profiles are slim but also authoritative and almost rigid. Short 3-button or double-breasted jackets; three piece suits consisting of two jackets, with trousers that are wide at the hips and narrow at the ankles. The accessories in the collection were remarkable, reflecting Zegna's massive experience and unmistakable style. All clean-honed and sophisticated, with shoes in patent leather and matt leather, with rounded toe; minimalist belts and padded gloves.
As regards colours, Sartori has not taken any chances and has used the shades of the season, above all anthracite grey, military green and camel, in many variants. The square and circle motifs used in differing sizes create simple and attractive textures. The new forms of hoods and belts for accessories are of interest for their originality.
This superb collection shows that working with new technology does not mean necessarily abandoning the quality and professional skills traditionally linked to hand tailoring. It introduces new directions into fashion, in which the combination of tradition and innovation generates original solutions with high levels of quality.
