Artful contrasts
by 20 October 2010

Proudly displaying some of the top current fashion trends, and inspired by the colors of the African subcontinent, Escada has created a collection for S/S 2011 that beautifully juxtaposes desert-inspired neutrals with bold colors like the blue of the ocean, or the burnt red of lava. The brown of khaki is offset against brightly colored print fabrics, and the bright primary colors of the accessories collection provide a perfect balance to the whites and chocolate browns of the clothes. The silhouettes are soft, draping over the body in a relaxed manner, creating an ethereal look. The entire collection drew inspiration from the work and travels of Peter Beard, a painter who artfully depicted the world around him, whether that world consisted of savanna animals or supermodels. While the collection consists almost entirely of neutrals and bolds, it was the sole black piece that was my definite favorite. A black gown with a sheer neck and lace detailing, with just the right amount of exposed ankle, the dress was exceptionally beautiful.
