Yesterday, 21 June 2010, Brioni welcomed many guests to its brand-new Palazzo Brioni on Via Gesù 2 in Milan, presenting its spring/summer 2011 collection. The men's showroom on the second floor was abuzz with journalists and enthusiasts chatting and looking at the colourful collection. All around the showroom, I immediately noticed beautiful colours such as royal blue, energetic red and mandarin among the quietly sophisticated eucalyptus green, lavender, mud brown and marsh green. The palette, inspired by David Hockney's vibrant artworks, reminds me of a summer's day in all its nuance. Among the outfits were whimsical drawings that told the story of Brioni. The spring/summer 2011 tone was set: the Brioni man will step into summer with style.
The jacket, a Brioni signature, is the soul of this collection. In spring/summer 2011, it is elegant and more slim-fitting. Not to be missed are the two-piece suits in cobalt blue silk and cotton mix and a silk seersucker suit in elegant white and beige for use during the day. For the evening, the cocktail jacket is a chessboard of small blue, beige, purple and green squares, or a mix of blues matched boldly with a celery-coloured shirt. The Brioni man emerges as his true classic self for dinner, in a strictly black outfit in a stunning silk shantung jacket and lace shirt.
Seriousness aside, there is always time to play. On your day off, slip on a super fine t-shirts with Brioni's iconic prints taken from its historic image archive, or go on a Sunday drive in a leather jacket with royal blue lining, impeccably matched with a double-faced knit belt that has a unique colour on each side. Brioni's Italian summer also presents ultra-light suede blousons, while silk/cashmere, silk/linen and wool/linen fabrics add even more luxury and substance to this dynamic collection.
