At Milan Fashion Week, Tuesday 19 January, Giorgio Armani's creations were an artful combination of romanticism and sports, with touches of a military look along with flashes of luxury - as in velvet detailing and piping. The inspiration is undoubtedly one of freedom, so that the disciplined silhouette is contradicted by lighter touches such as a bohemienne beret or even sheepskin gaiters. Techno elements are borrowed from contemporary sportswear, and denims are finished with velvet that adds sophistication. Velvet is of course an Armani favourite for its natural elegance and its lighjt-reflective properties. Black tie with gloves and trainers is a wholly memorable image.
