NEW YORK - Monique Lhuillier spring/summer 2013 took inspiration from the queen of eveningwear's recent Mediterranean vacation with elements that are a nod to ocean life. Most visible among the sea-influenced set was the abundant use of blue, the graphic shell and fish scale prints and a sheer tattoo-effect lacework on dresses, which bore a strong resemblance to plants flowing underweater.

While Lhuillier's command of ball gowns is already common knowledge, her bustier pantsuits set a new precedent for the designer, opening up the market to outfits with a little less emphasis on 'outright formal.'
