PARIS - Many notable French couturiers are voicing their approval over François Hollande's win over Nicolas Sarkozy in Sunday's election. Christian Lacroix (seen above with Hollande) specifically supported Hollande from the beginning saying he appreciated his honesty and convictions. Bouchra Jarrar called him a "breath of fresh air" and Karl Lagerfeld (who is a resident of Monaco and therefore could not vote) designed several tongue-in-cheek sketches about the elections, but the closest he came to choosing sides was to say that he found Hollande's girlfriend, Valérie Trierweiler, attractive. “I think she’s very handsome, very elegant.”

Among Hollande's campaign suggestions was to tack a 75% tax rate on salaries over $1 million euros and a special tax on luxury goods. If he makes good on these, the likes of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton have discussed moving certain operations to London, which could make it difficult for France to retain its most talented fashion industry players.
