Il Gufo opens a flagship store in Rome

Just a few months since its arrival on Madison Avenue, New York, and encouraged by the success of the own-brand store in Milan, Il Gufo, the luxury childrenswear brand, has decided to consolidate its presence by opening its first flagship store in an elegant historic building at Via del Babuino 65, right in the heart of Rome. In addition to its stores in Turin, Cortina, Treviso and Pordenone, Il Gufo is strategically strengthening its position in the Italian retail market by locating its store in one of the capital’s most prestigious shopping streets.

On Saturday 3 March 2012 Il Gulfo opened its new 35 square metre retail sales space in Rome, which will host the complete range of the brand items – clothing, shoes, accessories, baby collection and other exciting products – in a modern yet cosy atmosphere, specifically designed to be child-friendly.

The store was designed to match Rome's classic style. It was in fact devised by architects Filippo Caprioglio and Soldo from Studio Caprioglio Associati, who had already worked with Il Gufo on the design of stores in New York and Turin, the shop-in-shops created for La Rinascente in Milan, Rome and Palermo and the Mc Arthur Glen outlet stores. The design scheme features where soft lines and rounded shapes are prevalent.

The boutique’s interior creates a warm and inviting atmosphere: the bleached oak wallcladding blends with large mirrored wall and alcove display units. The small reception space in the centre forms a sort of a meeting place where visitors can relax. Magical mirrors incorporated into the walls magically become TV screens showing cartoons and documentaries to keep the smallest guests entertained while their parents are working for them! The white barrel vaulted ceiling, combined with a energy-saving LED lighting system, reflects a modern spirit that is at one with the world of Il Gufo.

As Alessandra Chiavelli, brand managing director, said, this opening represents an important step towards an ambitious plan for international expansion which will include, in the near future, the opening of other stores in the main strategic European capitals. The brand whose payoff is “children dressed as children” is on the path to accelerating growth.
