In the summer of 1929, Salvador Dalí met his muse, Gala. That marked the start of a crazy love story. Dalí created a language, the Daligramme love alphabet, for his diva, 'Gradiva'. It was a language that belonged to them only. “If you’re going to create a monogram, it might as well have a meaning!” Lancel took this to heart during the 1970s when the mason interpreted the Daligramme and created a bag, Le Dalí, dedicated to Dalí's love story. Today, Lancel is re-launching this collection with the Daligramme monogram as a declaration of love.
Once again, Lancel pays tribute to its French Légèreté with a collection consisting of 20 handbags, 13 made in jacquard and seven in luxury leather, along with other leather goods and accessories. The bags have interesting names such as DaliDay and DaliCious, together with the slim rectangular DaliDol. In particular, this latter bag, like the original created by Dalí with Lancel, features a bicycle chain as handle. At the time it was an unusual, almost Dada concept. Today it's simply an absolute show-stopper!
This collection will be available at Lancel boutiques from September 2011, click here to find your nearest Lancel boutique.
If you're in Paris sometime from 1 to 20 September, son't miss a trip to Galeries Lafayette, where Lancel have a store. It will be showing hitherto unseen photos of Dalí and Gala, by means of cooperation between Lancel and the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation.
