Retailing at £140,000, these solid gold and diamond shoes are the embodiment of a luxury product. The shoes are designed by British jewellery designer Christopher Michael Shellis. Created by a team of goldsmiths in temperatures of more than 1000ºC, each pair is made from solid gold and over 2,200 diamonds, totalling 30 carats.

"The aim of this was to create a unique form of jewellery which you can wear on your feet. It's a bit like if you found these on an archaeological dig in thousands of years time they would be regarded as a treasure - a treasure of the feet," added Shellis.

Admirers of the shoes should head to the Artbox in the Mailbox exhibition in Birmingham for a closer look, which opens on April 16.
