Spanish-born designer and architect Patricia Urquiola has recently collaborated with crystal brand Baccarat to create Variations, a new collection of stemware and vases. Accentuated by smooth and rhythmic lines, Urquiola’s new designs translate the movement and composition of reflecting light from the crystal into functional forms. “Crystal captures the relationship between light, transparency and refraction – an order of form and aesthetic, which allows breadth and liberty in function and in interpretation,” said the designer. The collection reveals stackable forms made in differing heights and diameters and shaped using principles of glass-cutting. As stated by the designer, these forms give off the light reflected from the crystal glass highlighting the patterned and pleated cuts as well as the terrific acid color hues given to these stunning vessels.
