Christie's launches Vintage Couture auction series
LONDON - Christie's has been known to hold a variety of stellar fashion-themed auctions in its 246-year history. The auction house has famously sold off items from the personal collections of Coco Chanel, Marilyn Monroe and Diana, Princess of Wales. Starting in November, Christie's is presenting a series of carefully curated vintage clothing auctions which will be made available both live and online. Entitled 'Vintage Couture,' the series will auction off gowns, important fashion pieces, ready-to-wear items and luxury handbags from brand like Hermès and Chanel.
Christie's Head of Fashion, Pat Frost says the auctions were motivated by the increasing demand for vintage goods, "the most noticeable trend in this market has been for high-end 20th century couture to attract more and more global demand in the saleroom. This launch is designed to meet this demand, and also to make this collecting area as accessible as possible to clients all around the world."
Public viewing of the pieces in London runs from 24 November to 27 November, while the live auction is set to take place on 29 November, the online auction has yet to be announced. Below is a selection of Lanvin and Christian Dior highlights from the forthcoming auctions...we're gunning for the zigzag print 1930s Lanvin number! For more info visit the Christie's website.
