What do you get when you combine 56 sports cars and 159 drivers? This past 13-15 April 2012 marked the start of the first racing event in the 2012 Blancpain Endurance Series. Though the rain was not ideal weather for the event, competitors were as eager as ever to take part in the event. Among the many drivers we saw Karl Wendlinger and Mark Blundell, both former Formula 1 drivers, and 9-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi (behind the wheel of a Ferrari 458 Italia).
The winners of this weekend's Blancpain Endurance Series were:
The BMW Z4 team with Bas Leinders, Maxime Martin and Markus Palttala took first place. They were followed by the Audi R8 LMS team with Marco Bonamoni, Edward Sandstrom and Laurens Vanthoor in second place, and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 team with Koen Wauters, Anthony Kumpen and Karl Wendlinger.
Blancpain's president and CEO Marc A. Hayek will participate in the next event scheduled for 2-3 May with a Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+.
