On 20 November 2013, Chanel opened a new boutique in Geneva, for fashion, watches and jewellery. On Rue du Rhône, at the heart of the city’s luxury shopping district, the 500 square-metre boutique presents the ready-to-wear fashion, bags, shoes and accessories designed by Karl Lagerfeld in one section, with Chanel’s watches and fine jewellery in another. Behind the listed 19th-century façade, the interiors were designed by New York architect Peter Marino. Throughout, there are works of contemporary art commissioned by Chanel, as well as designer and antique furnishings. The result is a space that reflects the brand’s characteristics and recalls the legacy of Mademoiselle Chanel, whose activities included intense patronage of the arts.
