Hussein Chalayan at Istanbul Modern

From 15 July- 24 October the Istanbul Modern is hosting a retrospective on the works of fashion designer and artist Hussein Chalayan. One of the most respected avant garde designers in the fashion world, Chalayan was born in Cyprus in 1970 and moved to England at the age of 12. He graduated from Central St. Martin’s College of Art and Design in 1993, and launched his own line the following year. He was named British Designer of the Year in both 1999 and 2000. In 2008 he became the creative director for Puma sportswear.

The exhibition at the Istanbul Modern is the first comprehensive display of Chalayan’s work in Turkey. The collection was previously shown at the Design Museum in London and Tokyo’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Spanning the years 1994-2010, the exhibit explores fashion, art installations and films produced by Chalayan.
