Chef Dani García from Restaurante Calima recieves his second Michelin Star

This is the second Michelin star for the Restaurante Calima located at the Hotel Gran Melía Don Pepe in Marbella. Just two years after its opening in 2007, Dani García obtained the first of these stars for his innovative and creative cuisine and its outstanding service as well as its select wine list.

Dani Garcías cuisine is based on contrasts though at the same time he brings forth traditional tastes of Andalusian cuisine. His recipes are a play on textures, combination of tastes and opposition of hot and cold. In short, his gastronomy is the perfect combination of traditional recipes with avant-garde trends. The chef, born in Marbella in 1975 began his studies at the age of 18 at the Escuela de Hostelería de Málaga “La Consula.” In 1996 he was an apprentice at Restaurante Martín Berasategui and in 1998 he opened the doors at the Tragabuches de Ronda Restaurant, where he obtained his first Michelin star in 2000.

Restaurante Calima opened in 2005 with Dani García as head chef and two years after the restaurant received its first Michelin star. Calima is the setting where all this magic takes place. It is García’s place for reflection, preparation and experimentation. This second Michelin-star has been an acknowledgement to his work and a personal satisfaction. García also states that it is thanks to his wonderful and hardworking team as well as with the support of the Hotel Gran Melía Don Pepe that he was able to achieve this.
