Saturday 31 March, 2012, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, is switching-off time worldwide, and The Langham, Xintiandi, Shanghai is a hotel that is taking part in the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour. This is the first time that The Langham Xintiandi is taking part, and they have announced that it will be a yearly event. The concept of switching off electric lights to promote climate change is also a great excuse for candlelit dining! The hotel's chefs will be cooking a special menu featuring micro and organic vegetables.

The Langham, Xintiandi, Shanghai is taking the operation very seriously. A special Green Team will be in action during the day, performing energy-saving measures, such as reducing the amount of chemicals, hot water and energy used in its operations. The hotel is noted for its two-storey chandelier in the lobby. This will be turned off for Earth Hour, turning off all the one million LED lights and using just a single green bulb, which will be lit for 30 minutes before and after Earth Hour.
