Sprinting for success: design brands and the London Olympics
Some of the top designers and their work for Olympic teamsby Henry Neuteboom
The London Olympics will be a truly momentous event, in part because it makes London the first city to have hosted three official Games. Top fashion brands are working on their contributions to the style that will be an integral part of the Olympics. Links of London have designed a collection for Team GB, including Team GB Bands that will be worn by athletes but that can also be purchased by the public keening on pledging their support for the country's team.
In the photo below, Amy Williams, former Olympic skeleton racer and Olympic gold medallist, is wearing the Links of London Entwine VIP pendant and bracelet.
The official London 2012 GB Olympic kit was deigned by Stella McCartney and created by Adidas. The outfits feature a deconstructed Union flag, in which red is notably absent, though it appears in the trim. Below, Jessica Ennis in the track and field outfit (photo courtesy of Talk PR).
Ermanno Scervino has designed the outfits that will be worn by the Azerbaijan team, in a collection that includes formal wear for the opening and closing ceremonies, and leisure wear for use by the athletes in the campus. The colours and symbols of the Azer flag were used for inspiration, along with the maison's own stylistic features. Accessories are mocassins, sneakers, bags, hats, towels and more.
Other designers who will be seen include Ralph Lauren for the U.S. team
