One of the most luxurious suites in London - and in the world
The Lanesborough Suite at the like-named hotel in London
by Henry Neuteboom
The Lanesborough London, located close to Hyde Park, Knightsbridge and Belgravia, has always been considered as one of the world's most luxurious hotels. It is also famous for its Michelin-starred restaurant Apsleys. Now they have taken luxury a step further, recently opening one of the largest and most luxurious suites in London. This superb new venture in quality hospitality appears at an important moment in London's society calendar, in anticipation of the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Named simply the Lanesborough Suite, it was designed by Alberto Pinto, in a style that reflects Regency in its art and furniture, along with contemporary sophistication.
Pinto is famous all over the world for his interior design. His clientele includes royalty and heads of state, with a classical vision that is ideally suited to the residential interiors at The Lanesborough. He has always designed on a grand scale, in a whole range of locations that include English castles, Mediterranean villas, North African riads, and apartments in New York and Paris. He has had experience on more unusual projects such as yachts or private jets. His agency is today a 60-strong concern creating interiors for private residences, offices, hotels and other locations.
The suite replaces what was previously the hotel's largest, the Royal Suite, which has been very successful, to the point that the hotel's management decided to create another, even more opulent suite. This was achieved by completely renovating what was previously an Oriental-style mezzanine on the first floor. This furniture was no longer necessary and so it was actually auctioned off by Bonhams.
Even the arrangement of rooms was redesigned. The project had a very tight timeline, because the suite had to be finished in time for the Royal Wedding. Many elements of the new interiors are exceptional in themselves, such as the flooring for the Living Area, a one-piece 12 x 9 metre carpet that had to be carried up the stairs and carefully arranged in the room. This task alone required fourteen specialist installers.
The suite has over 380 square metres total space, including four bedrooms, five bathrooms, two living rooms, a kitchen and a dining room. The floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows offer superb views over Wellington Arch and Green Park.
Guests at The Lanesborough Suite can utilize the hotel's superb services, including a complimentary chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce Phantom and 24-hour butler service. The many facilities included with the suite comprise the new IPTV Mac mini system.
"Since opening The Lanesborough twenty years ago, we have been committed to surpassing our guests' expections, and The Lanesborough Suite is poised to continue this tradition," said Geoffrey Gelardi, Managing Director of The Lanesborough. "Alberto Pinto has the talent and vision to complement the unique residential style that makes The Lanesborough a favourite destination in London."
The Lanesborough Suite is priced at £14,000 (about €16,000) per night plus VAT, making it one of the most expensive suites in the world.
