Mulberry, global luxury brand rooted deep in English tradition
The next step is the bespoke bag service, with customization and initials.by Cheryl Chu
Established in 1971 in rural Somerset, Mulberry is a global luxury brand that never strayed far away from home. Today, its headquarters is still in the picturesque village of Chilcompton.
Loyal, highly skilled craftsmen, classic design and, most importantly, a steady sense of identity, remain Mulberry’s core values. Together, they are a winning formula that solidify its place in the realm of luxury leathergoods. Luxos goes on a journey with Mulberry to see where the brand has been, and where it is heading.
Where the Heart Belongs
Mulberry’s headquarter is a closely-knit community where the manufacture teams work together and live not far from each other. Many of Mulberry’s craftsmen have been with the brand since its inception, upholding the supreme quality of its leathergoods. 206 employees are housed in the Rookery, the majority living within a fivemile radius.
Dedicated to keep its production in the UK, Mulberry pioneered an apprenticeship programme, recruiting new graduates in Somerset. The 18-month course will teach them a diverse range of leathergoods manufacture skills. Mulberry guarantees full time employment upon completion of the course. With this promising programme, the brand is giving back to the community that contributed so much to its beginnings.
Speak for Yourself
With enduring design and excellent quality, offering bespoke bag service is the next natural step. Available at all Mulberry boutiques in the UK, customers can create their own bag. Whether it is the iconic Bayswater, the smaller Ledbury or the roomy Piccadilly for the ladies, or the practical Brynmore and the large Calder for the gentlemen, customization choices abound. Choose your favourite colour and skin, get your very own bag engraved or order leather initials that dangle from the handles for a unique touch. In six to ten weeks, your dream bag will be ready. As Mulberry continues to grow worldwide, its bespoke bag service also extends to stores in the U.S., and selected dates at its European addresses. English luxury has never been so accessible.
