John Richmond Spring / Summer 2012
Fashion Show Reviewby Alessia Sara Domanico
The fashion show runway music at John Richmond Women Spring-Summer 2012 was Moscow Disco, a beat by electronic disco pop group Telex popular circa 1978. “I actually own the LP,” Richmond told us backstage at his SS 2012 show. Certain looks from the collection were very much an articulation of the song title with glitzy, at times transparent women’s tall dresses and maxi dresses, bold shouldered, studded and slashed leather jackets along with tassels galore. These are Richmond's summer trends for 2012.
Backless dresses with criss-crossed crystalized straps reminded us of a decadent Russian night out. Other looks brought together beachwear with office attire with brightly printed bandeau bikini tops worn under grey boyfriend blazers and trousers. One cream-coloured blazer that caught our attention had super long sleeves where the model wore the looks with her arms hanging out of the crevices between elbow and button.
Richmond’s token rock‘n roll signature was still ever present with gothic-inspired black gowns that were super short at the front and floor-length at the back. The closing piece made quite the exit as we watched the model walk away from the cameras, her sheer black gown blowing out behind her and the image of two eerie orangey skeletons posed along the tail.
