Gucci Fall/Winter 2012-2013
LUXOS looks at the dramatically decadent new women's collectionby Alessia Sara Domanico
MILAN – The Gucci Fall/Winter 2012-2013 collection travels further back into decadent time from the Roaring Twenties that hallmarked the brand’s Spring 2012 line. Backstage before the show Creative Director Frida Giannini cited the 19th century as a principal inspiration. Using the rich and heavy materials of the era – velvet, jacquard and leather, Gucci imagined a realm of “Sleep Hollow” costumes. It was all about drama with cascading capes, sumptuous velvet gowns, blazers and skirts, military and wide-legged pants tucked into leather riding boots.
The soundtrack throughout the show went from apulsing techno-fetish beat to a full blown operatic aria. The collection progressed in the same fashion from tough and bold masculine styles on to romantic flowing eveningwear fashioned in jewel-embellished tool, we bet we’ll be seeing one of these on the Oscar red carpet this Sunday.
