Furla S/S 2011
Furla continues to create innovative designs with bold materialsEileen Bernardi
Furla is known in the fashion design industry for its bold use of materials and its dedication to innovation, and the Spring/Summer 2011 collection from the Bolognese leather company is no exception.
This season Furla introduces the Candy Bag, a line that combines unusual materials and innovative technology to create brightly colored bags and shoes that are supremely functional and surprisingly original. The bags are created from rubber using an injection mold, combined with traditional hand stitching, and come in colors like green, fuchsia, orange and yellow.
The entire collection was inspired by an Exotic Garden, combining the colors of the tropics for the bags and shoes of the Candy line, with more neutral colors inspired by desert sands and the tones of the African savanna in the Natural Collection.
Various types of leather come together in the Natural Collection, which includes jute totes, braided leather bags, python tulip bags, and my favorite, the laser-cut totes.
Furla has also revamped its Royal bag this season. The iconic bag and a best seller from the A/W 2010 collection, the Royal bag has been given a spring-like renovation in terms of both colors and materials.
The new shoe collection is a study in contrasts: flats that are both sporty yet feminine and heels that are elegant yet aggressive.
