Cartier and the new Rotonde Chronographe central calibre 9907 MC
The French jeweller and watchmaking maison is still pushing for progress.By Natalia Grgona
Cartier, well-known French jeweller and watchmaker, always surprises us with its excellent, luxurious and sophisticated creations. Founded in 1847, and with its Paris flagship boutique on Rue de la Paix since 1897, Cartier incorporates technical prowess, innovation, creativity and ingenuity into their designs. In the beginning of the 20th century, it was whilst helping his friend, pilot Alberto Santos Dumont, that Louis Cartier and watchmaker Edmond Jaeger came up with the first prototype of a wristwatch.
More than one century later, the celebrated brand of Cartier continues to push boundaries with every single new creation.
The most recent example is the Rotonde Chronographe central calibre 9907 MC, presented at the last Salon International de Haute Horlogerie in Geneva. With its new calibre and isolated chronographic display in the centre, the dial appears to be held in place by the hands. The pink gold, rounded case with its sapphire back perfectly encases the technical innovations whilst optimising legibility on both levels of the dial. These improvements formed the basis of a patent registered by Cartier. This is proof that progress is still at the heart of all endeavours, as it had always been for the founder, Louis Cartier.
