Alice + Olivia spring/summer 2013
Stacie Bendet goes for modern pixie meets Fifties sweetheartAlessia Sara Domanico
NEW YORK - Stacey Bendet staged her Alice + Olivia spring 2013 show in a brightly lit showroom in the city's trendy-to-a-fault Meatpacking District. The latest girlishly guilty set of threads for next spring continue the brand's noted quirky spirit and signature pretty sartorial.
Citing the American dream and the optimism of the late 1950s, Bendet went from one extreme to the next mixing garden party-worthy printed hoop skirts alongside clingy and shimmery party girl minis.
The designer had a serious case of the sky blues (blue in general really), in all of its glorious shades from royal blue right through to acquamarine. Bendet's tastes also made a shift into more elegant, billowing evening numbers, contrasting from her tendency to go for cutesy kneelength frocks and coats.
Another recurring genre amidst the New York Fashion Week collections is the ingenue ballerina. Bendel proposed transparent peach skirts with matching jackets and poofy and proper white dresses. New for Alice + Olivia this season are the introduction of handbags, which were as punchy in colour as the collection itself.
