Alberta Ferretti Spring / Summer 2012
Fashion show review of the romantic Italian designerAdriana Monteverde
What came to mind after the first few looks sent down the catwalk at the Alberta Ferretti show yesterday? An urban woman, dressing for the warm climate, always sophisticated but with sexy glimpses of skin here and there. Sheer is the word, with revealing panels mixed with block colour. And on that note, colours were important with a mix of black, neutral, whites but mostly brights such as hot pink, fuschia, blue, marine green, red-orange.
The paneling effect remained interesting and unique throughout, ranging from basic shapes to complicated and crocheted effects with hand-beading. The collection then progressed into a series of ‘tropical jungle’ pieces but remained romantic and womanly through the use of light fabric, draping and by incorporating the sheer fabric again, so subtle that two looks seemed as though the model’s torsos had been tattooed with the print.
About accessories, the clutches were stunning, especially the way the straps looked wrapped around the models wrists but given the freshness of this collection, we would have liked to see more modern footwear. Some chunkier heels could have taken the collection to a whole other dimension.
