Where to do yoga in Istanbul

Take your downward dog to new a destination with our guide to the best yoga studios on the Bosphorus

Yoga may have taken the world by storm, but it has come to Istanbul in fits and starts. There are a few big studios with multiple locations, while smaller studios seem to come and go. Another challenge for non-Turkish speakers is finding classes in English. So while there seems to be a large appetite for yoga in Istanbul, it can be hard to locate a reliable place to get your fix. With that being said, there are some solid options if you’re in Istanbul and have a hankering to get your stretch on. Here are our recommendations for the best places to do yoga in the city. The majority of classes at the below locations are in English or in English and Turkish, but it’s wise to check with the studio first.

Cihangir Yoga

Located in – you guessed it – Cihangir, the epicenter of all things hipster in Istanbul, Cihangir Yoga is one of the oldest and most highly respected yoga studios in Istanbul. With classes ranging from Flow to Power, Yin and Ashtanga yoga, it’s the perfect spot for anyone staying in Taksim or Karaköy. Cihangir Yoga has grown into something of a yoga powerhouse in Istanbul. In addition to its regular schedule of classes, it also hosts various workshops and retreats with internationally renowned teachers. Not only that, but Cihangir Yoga has opened two other locations in Istanbul, Istiniye on the upper European shores and Caddebostan on the Asian side. If you decide to take a class at their large, airy studio in Istiniye, don’t forget to drop by their cosy Yo Cafe for some tasty, healthy treats. www.cihangiryoga.com/en
