Character, individuality and quality
The Widder Hotel is all about art and individuality. The structure consists of nine townhouses, all carefully refurbished. Each of the 42 rooms and 7 suites room is uniquely furnished, with a carefully-selected combination of antique, classic and modern furniture, art, wonderful textiles, luxury bedlinen and high-technology amenities. The same attention is lavished on the banqueting and meeting rooms, restaurant and bar.
In particular, the furniture is worthy of a museum, with pieces by Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Adolf Loos, Charles and Ray Eames, Eileen Gray, Josef Hoffmann, Frank Lloyd Wright, Mario Bellini, Harry Bertoia and yet others.
Robert Rauschenberg created a painting for the stairway in the Penthouse Suite. Other works in lobby, restaurants, conference halls and guest rooms include Augusto Giacometti, Serge Poliakoff, Max Bill, Andy Warhol and Sophie Taeuber-Arp.
Art can also mean performance, and at the Widder Bar, you can enjoy great live jazz with a superb selection of spirits. The Widder Restaurant features the world-class cuisine by Alexander Kroll.
Rooms and suites
Each of the 42 rooms and 7 suites is different, reflecting their position in one of the nine townhouses making up the hotel – the buildings are all national monuments, and were restored from 1990 to 1995. Some of the suites have a private roof terrace. All rooms and suites have quality facilities, including air conditioning, direct dial telephones, wired and wireless high-speed internet access, and entertainment systems including Bang & Olufsen TV and hi-fi. There are single, double and duplex rooms, the latter with a gallery providing extra living space. Suites vary in size and space, but all have separate bedroom and living room. The Penthouse suite has a spacious living room with open fire, a bathroom with a Jacuzzi, and a large private roof terrace that looks over the Zurich rooftops.
For many people, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the Breakfast Pavilion provides the perfect setting, with light flooding in from the glass roof. In summer, the roof slides back so that you are enjoying your breakfast in the fresh air.
The Widder Restaurant has been awarded 15 Gault Millau points. Chef Alexander Kroll creates a menu with a range of international recipes, including an exceptional selection of vegetarian options. The chef insists on sustainability and regional produce, and uses only organically farmed products, and free-range animals and poultry.
