Other menu examples include the starter "A tasting of tuna, salmon and crab", with rare seared tuna with sesame crust, Scottish salmon tartare, and Cornish crab tian; the main course "English Rack of lamb," with mashed potato, Provencal vegetables, lemon thyme sauce, and the dessert "Warm bread and butter pudding", with orange marmalade ice cream. The Landmark London’s Afternoon Tea recently received an Award of Excellence by the Tea Guild. Tea Guild Inspectors, who are all experts in tea, anonymously visit each Tea Guild member, at least twice during the competition judging period (from end July to end October) and check that their very strict criteria are being maintained in the 16 categories that are assessed. These 16 categories include; hygiene and cleanliness, decor, staff attitude, efficiency of service, and include eight tea service categories such as tea appearance, flavour and knowledge of tea.
As the standards that Tea Guild members offer their customers continue to rise, the Tea Guild recognise those members who achieved almost top marks in the Top Tea Place and Top London Afternoon Tea competitions. These awards, known as The Awards of Excellence, are considered to be the Michelin Stars of the tea world.
