Masseria San Domenico
A five-star luxury resort in a unique location
Against the backdrop of the blue Mediterranean sky and sea, Masseria San Domenico lies only 500 metres from the Adriatic coast in the Puglia region of Italy, its whitewashed building standing amidst centenarian olive groves. The building itself goes back to the 15th century, when it was used by the Knights of Malta as a watch-tower. After a careful restoration, completed respecting the old shapes and the original building materials, the tower was converted into a 5 star deluxe resort whose charm recalls the history of the region, a land where the Eastern and the Mediterranean cultures blend well together.
Masseria San Domenico offers boutique-style intimacy bound with first class facilities such as a magnificent outdoor free-form swimming pool, a state-of-the-art Thalassotherapy Spa, a lovely beach, two tennis courts, a modern gym and a challenging 18-hole golf course.
n the Puglia region, the "masserie" were large agricultural centers for farming the land and preserving farm produces. There were several buildings used for the working of farm products. One building was the house for the "massaro's" workers, and it was occasionally used by the owners as their residence. The historical center of the Masseria San Domenico dates back to the XIV century and was used by the Knights of Malta, whose main center in Puglia was S. Stefano, as a watch tower against Saracens' attacks. Masseria San Domenico developed around the core building, with its ancient slit windows and chimneys. The structures grew in the early 20th century, in accordance with the agricultural activities. Surrounded by 60 hectares of ancient olive trees and orchards, and preserving the original architectural structure, Masseria San Domenico has been restored and converted into a refined hotel, which has been operating since 1996.
All our rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite television, safe, mini bar, hairdryer and radio. Goose down and latex pillows are available. Beds are king size (190x200cm) but twin beds can be supplied on request.
In the "San Domenico" restaurant, the main dining room is an attractive space, with a vaulted ceiling that was originally constructed in the early 18th century to house an olive press. The restaurant offers typical Apulian specialties, accompanied by a rich selection of the finest Italian and international wines. Vegetables and extra virgin olive oil are still grown or produced on San Domenico's own land. Fresh fish and shellfish come from the nearby Adriatic Sea.
