Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière
The most Parisian of the “Palace” hotels, on the Champs-Elysées
Hôtel Fouquet’s Barriere is a new hotel, yet one with a rich history that speaks of passion, perseverance and dedication. Hotel Fouquet’s Barriere stands where the Champs-Elysées meets the Avenue George V. It is a remarkable construction recalling Paris’ most spectacular architectural legacy. Standing on the most magnificent avenue in the world with, at its heart, Paris’ legendary brasserie, the hotel is imbued with Fouquet’s century-long celebrity and glamour. It is the newest jewel on an avenue that is the epitome of luxury - blending flawlessly with its neighbors - the flagships of leading French luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chanel and Cartier. Its location is perfect. Just a stroll from the Arc de Triomphe, the Grand and Petit Palais, the Museum of Modern Art, the Palais de Tokyo, the River Seine, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.
When Parisian architect Édouard François was commissioned with transforming the five separate buildings into one single unit, he was faced with the ultimate challenge: how to create something beautiful, magnificent and luxurious, which would exceed today’s expectations and also pay tribute to the classic architectural heritage given to Paris by its 19th-century planner, Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann. His solution was to replicate the Haussmann-era façade of Fouquet’s...to “cast” it sculpturally in raw concrete and to apply it to the modern façades. The hotel’s garden, François André terrace and its interior courtyard – with their forest of aluminium boughs – brilliantly recall the Haussmannian epoch.
Jacques Garcia was asked to design an interior that was luxurious and rooted in tradition - yet with a revolutionary edge. Surreal. Eclectic. Rules respected. Rules broken. Distinctive furniture and fabrics commissioned uniquely for Hotel Fouquet’s Barriere. Jacques Garcia has created a hotel with character, atmosphere and unprecedented luxury. A desire to stay and to keep coming back.
One hundred and seven keys, forty of which open the doors to suites. An atmosphere that conveys luxury, privacy and originality. Each room offers breathtaking views of the Champs-Elysées, Avenue George V or the interior garden. A marriage of gold, copper and ivory. A thick-pile, floral carpet spread throughout in warm beige tones. Canopies covered in striped velvet and damask. Gold-leafed arches and columns. Shark-skin furniture. Damask curtains. Every room offers subtle, adjustable lighting, an entrance hall, separate bathrooms and toilet, work space and a brightly lit mahogany lined dressing room. Highly sophisticated technology. Exceptional interior and exterior sound-proofing. Triple-glazed double windows. The acoustics of each room are thirty to forty per cent better than the required average.
The “Grande Suite de Paris” overlooks the Champs-Élysées. A vast space of 6,000 square feet, boasting its own private terrace. Jacques Garcia’s unique 1940’s-inspired decor. White ostrich leather seats, mahogany shelving, beige and raspberry tone walls in the dining room. Gold-leaf sliding doors. Black velvet and damask armchairs and sofas, faux marble painted walls in the living room. 180° panorama over the roofs of Paris and the Eiffel Tower from the Duplex Suite. A private terrace and aromatic garden with an open view of the sky.
Hotel Fouquet’s Barriere embraces this new era. Free Wifi access everywhere. Each room can be turned into a multimedia centre. LCD screens are integrated into mirrors or disguised as shark skin objets d’art. DVD players, digital devices, computers, multipurpose fax-scanner-printers and mp3 players available in all rooms. Each room boasts at least four telephones: fixed, portable and hands-free.
