Trastevere

South of the Vatican, located on the west bank of the Tiber river is Trastevere. This area is exactly how you picture Rome to be with winding cobblestone streets, medieval homes, authentic Roman restaurants, an air of romance and plenty of unique characters out and about. Thanks to its signature characteristics it has become famous for tourists but it also attracts Rome's artsy crowd and is worth a stroll around. Begin at Piazza Santa Maria.
