Fiaschetteria Toscana
Salizada S.Giovanni Grisostomo, Cannaregio 5719, Venice
Do not be confused by the name, the Fiaschetteria Toscana is Venetian through and through. Housed in a former Tuscan wine shop, the current owners retained the wine shop’s name owing to the prominent role the shop had played in the social life of the community. Located in the heart of Venice, a few steps from the Rialto Bridge, the Fiaschetteria Toscana serves deliciously simple Venetian classics. The true specialty here is seafood, and the kitchen uses only wild and local fish. Every ingredient is specially sourced to ensure that the restaurant’s strict measures of quality are met: over 600 wines have been chosen from the best wineries in Italy, the beef comes from the prized Chianina cows, and only select Italian cheeses have made the cut.
Owners Albino and Mariuccia Busatto have been delighting diners since 1983 with Venetian specialities such as squid ink pasta with lobster, the frittura della serenissima (a fry of seafood, shellfish and vegetables), or the highly acclaimed deserts, like the rovesciata di mele al caramello, the Toscana’s version of an apple turnover topped with caramel. In the summer months the Fiaschetteria Toscana offers al fresco dining in the small square beyond its front door.
