Al Fassia

Owned and run solely by women (apart from the male door staff, natch), Al Fassia is a unique proposition in Morocco. A traditional and elegant space, it's well tended by the owners who busy themselves efficaciously, sleeves rolled up, creating a relaxed atmosphere while remaining always attentive.

Large traditional paintings adorn the walls, the silk napkins have been studiously embroidered, and the overall impression is of eating in someone's (somewhat opulent) home. The menu is as traditional as the interior, and has - gasp! - à la carte options (one of the only decent Moroccan restaurants that does) as well as a fixed menu.

All the classic dishes are here as well as a few more innovative ones. Call ahead and you can order the exact food you want, although the regular menu provides some of the best local cuisine in town. The outside patio is the best option - make sure you book ahead.
