Eroticism Museum
72 Boulevard de Clichè 75018 Paris
Two portly golden statues guard the entrance to this playful and informative dojo of eroticism from around the world. Downstairs starts by celebrating masculine devices in the form of “impenetrable” substitutes, transformed furniture, jewellery, stiletto heels with multiple uses and even a tooth from a sperm whale, engraved with a risqué scene. Across five floors, three hundred visitors a day, whether it be couples on a spree, foreign students or exhilarated fifty-somethings, mingle amongst the thousand and one old-fashioned images, both sacred and popular: oceanic symbols, chivalrous Indian letters, Greek ceramics and soft debauchery of rich Peruvians. This spring, after Robert Crumb and Roy Stuart, the temporary exhibitions are set to welcome the “graceful” embroideries of Fanny Viollet as well as a collection of naughty vinyl.
