OCTOBER 2011 – MARCH 2012 – CAMEL RACING
Camel racing is not only a popular spectator sport, but also a practice deeply rooted in Emirati tradition. Races generally take place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays throughout the winter season. Two races are the norm, with morning races beginning at 7.30 a.m. and afternoon races at 2.30 p.m. We suggest you catch an afternoon training session where the sheer number of camels is astonishing. 26TH – 30TH OCTOBER 2011 – DIWALI
Diwali is an important five-day festival known as the 'festival of lights.’ It is celebrated for different reasons in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. You’ll see local residents ordering new clothes, buying candles and decorating their homes with Rangoli (coloured powder). Join in on the celebrations by donning a traditional outfit and attending an Indian-style feast at a local restaurant.
