Macau
Macau was a Portuguese territory until 1999, and it is now a Special Administrative Region with a strong colonial feel. Much of Macau Peninsula has been designated a Unesco World Heritage site, with its blend of Chinese and colonial architecture. The city has a massive entertainment industry, attracting visitors from mainland China, Hong Kong, and elsewhere, visiting the Macau Peninsula waterfront, and the Cotai Strip, currently being developed. Macau's shopping opportunities are based strongly on its malls. The city is renowned for its cuisine, principally based on Portuguese and Macanese recipes.
